Patient for orthoscopic knee surgery. Very dissatisfied with care, result and staff issues! ..., May 21, 2012 I had a knee (minuscus) surgery performed there in 2010. They indicated that I would be back to 100% in about 10 days after this orthosopic surgery. Instead, I have been plagued with pain ever since. I did all the therapy, taken cordizone and suparts to no avail. Along the way I have had issues with the staff over appointments and payments. They have claimed on two occasions that I was grossly delinquent on payments..... first example was when I was taking a 6 week round of supparts injections. They indicated at the start that the insurance paid it all, until they discovered that this wasn't true and upon one of my last visits for this, they initially tried to suspend any further treatment until my account was paid in full....something less than $100.00. Having serious pain issues, I booked an appointment with the Doctor, who I almost never saw, always relegated to a PA, and waited the ap[proximate two months to see the Dr, before the office staff called and said I owed them $106 and the Dr would not see me until I had paid this in full and all of this years deductible, in advance.... because of my past payment history..... a one time error, that they were responsible for. I believe, personally, that the Dr. violated his Hippocratic Oath when he refused to see me based upon this. His staff would not allow me to speak direct to him and then charged me .65 cents a page for my records. I have subsequently heard that this Dr. is great for shoulders, nut that knees are not his specialty. Based upon my experience, I would agree, since I still have a serious problem with my knee. Some months after the unsuccessful surgery, they indicated to me that I might be a good candidate for a whole knee replacement....something not even remotely on the radar before the orthoscopic minuscus surgery. Based upon the level of professionalism from the office staff and the fact that I have not achieved the desired level of health promised, I would not recommend this Dr. for any surgery or |

Horrible waste of time, I will not be seeing her again..., May 15, 2012 Visiting Dr. Smith was pointless. She was unfriendly, acted as if she didn't care about me or helping me get better, and talked down to me as if I was stupid. She prescribed me a pill and told me absolutely nothing about it nor how to take it or when. She did not tell me that I would need to drink more water than normal due to a side effect of the prescription. She also told me to take an OTC that had absolutely nothing to do with my symptoms and in actuality, if I took the OTC, it would cause adverse effects. I left her office in tears and needed to ask the pharmacist for all the information she should have given me in the first place. I was very disappointed and upset with my visit with her. I will never see her again. |

0/10. Dr. Mendel's sloppy medical practice set me back over 2 years worth of training progress...., Apr 10, 2012 I injured my shoulder in 2010 while training with a barbell. This is the doctor I ended up going with while looking for a sports medicine doctor who specializes in shoulders. After waiting 3 months for my appointment, and 45 minutes waiting at their office for my appointment, I got maybe 5 minutes of time with the doctor. He ignored me completely when I tried explaining the type of pain I'm going through, and when the injury occurred. He injected my shoulder with cortizone, and told me it was just inflammation. In 2012, my shoulder is getting worse, to the point where I can't ignore the pain at all. I schedule an appointment with a different doctor and the University of Iowa, and on the first appointment, they schedule an arthrogram and MRI. The MRI confirmed that I have a tear in my labrum. If Dr. Mendel would have listened to me, this would have been dealt in 2010, and I would be able to continue training. But now I need surgery, and recovery looked like it'll take between 6-12 months. I can't train during that time. All this because Dr. Mendel refused to give quality healthcare (but still charge a premium healthcare price). My only regret is that this review will give Dr. Mendel 1 star, when it's currently at 0. |

Is a very nice person, but doesn’t seem focused on me as a patient or person..., Apr 10, 2012 Feels like she is only half listening to me, and gives the impression that I’m boring her, and that what I’m telling her isn’t important. She doesn’t give supporting reasons for her treatment choices when asked, and is missing the mark in connecting with me as a patient, and seems annoyed when asked too many questions. |

Dr. Ghai's unprofessionalism and poor judgement almost killed me...., Feb 16, 2012 Dr. Ghai refused to have a heart cath performed on me at the request of Dr. Hess at Shands teaching hospital. I had seen Dr. Ghai about my malignant HBP. After several visits and a hospital stay he declared my problem was to much sodium. My resting BP was 167/110 at the time of my release from the hospital. I was referred to Dr. Hess at Shands for a 2nd opinion at the request of my family doctor.. Dr Hess indicated I needed a CT scan. He wondered out loud why this had not already been performed while under Dr. Ghai's care during my hospital stay. The CT showed I had Triple vessel calcification. Dr. Hess referred me back to Ghai to have the Cath performed. He felt this was necessary due to my symptons and family history(father died of heart attack at 49, mother had CABG at 62). He told me to have Dr. Ghai call for a consultation. Upon return to Dr. Ghai he refused to order the cath saying it was unnecessary. He said "I am the professional, Dr. Hess is just a surgeon". I returned to Shands were Dr. Hess had the cath performed. It revealed I had 5 blockages 752% or greater. I had CABG performed at Shands on 1/4/11. The physicians at Shands could not believe the lack of professionalism shown by Ghai. Dr. Ghai is completely incompetent. I would advise anyone seeing him to reconsider. |
