Expensive if Not Using Insurance, Rude Receptionist..., Jul 27, 2010 I've been going to this office exclusively since I moved to New York in the late 80's. This was always for eye exams when my license was up for renewal. The Doctors are a Father and Son team and were always nice and competent. Recently I went for my exam and when I got home I noticed my bill was $325 which I thought was pretty steep. I had the exam, the drops to dilate etc. but I never remember the cost being so great. I called to question this and mentioned that I didn't have insurance and i was told by the not too cordial receptionist that he would speak to the Doctor and call me. He called back and said that was the rate and nothing could be done. After this I wrote a letter and thought they would try to offer some assistance but they refused. I did pay the full charge and asked for my records. Perhaps I should have asked their rate in advance but it had never been extreme in the past. I asked many friends who go often to eye Doctors and they all thought this bill was too much. Anyway, this just felt like a bit of a nasty shakedown and the rude receptionist, clearly not the sharpest tack as they say, made the situation worse. Lesson learned! |

Dr. Benz took the time to describe the procedure that will be done...., Apr 23, 2010 Dr. Benz took the time to describe the procedure that will be done and really listened to our questions and concerns. My daughter, who has heard some horror stories and was afraid, is now at peace with the idea of her surgery. I would recommend DR. Benz to other people. He is caring and capable as a doctor. |

What Happened To Me During My Outpatient Treatment..., Apr 15, 2010 Before I say anything else, I would like to say first that the other staff, the social worker, the therapists, and group facilitators were all awesome. I was assigned to this doctor through an outpatient hospital program. The doctor seemed to be OK at first but the more I dealt with him the worse it got. It began when I needed a special medication that he himself was not able to prescribe. He was aware that this medication is not to be stopped abruptly and because this was at a hospital, it was his job as covering doctor to find someone who could help me get my medication while I was under his care. He did a poor job because at times I went for days without my medication. Worse is the fact that when discharged from his care, there was to be another doctor already in place to pick up treatment. This was a policy of the hospital program. He discharged me knowingly to a doctor who would not be able to treat me for four days. When I called him for help, he was rude and said something along the lines of because I was discharged he was no longer obligated to treat me. Then he said that he had another patient and hung up on me. His "bedside manner" was cold and uncaring. He let me suffer needlessly. I was able to find a new doctor on my own who was able to treat me, there were several actually. I don't understand why he was unable to do so. |

Very personable and warm doctor to have as a surgeon..., Mar 16, 2010 When I had to have surgery for a gangrenous gallbladder, this doctor said he thought it was my gallbladder before he examined me. He was very informative before sending me into the ER and afterwards he took a lot of time to sit and speak with me about my surgery. He was very personable and I would recommend him to anyone nervous about that type of surgery. |
