Absolutely love Dr. Bukowski - he has been a great pediatric urologist for my daughter..., May 20, 2010

My daughter has been seeing Dr. Bukowski since 7 wks old for an ectopic ureter issue that connected improperly to her vaginal wall. He did a ureterostomy at 11 wks for her, and left it for approximately 6 mos. That surgery was followed up with a ureter implantation surgery to connect it to the bladder as expected. The next 6 yrs our daughter continued seeing Dr. Bukowski regularly for recurring kidney infections not resolved by the operations. At every visit we usually waited at least an hour. While this sounds like an annoyance to some, when you get in to see him, and he spends as much time with you as you need to get all your questions answered, you grow to appreciate he's one of the few MD's out there that really cares enough to listen to his patients and their concerns and never tries to rush you out to see the next person. In recent discussions around our daughter's situation, he spent over an hour on the phone with me talking through options we have around resolving her infections issues. An hour of no-copay related time as he was driving to his child's baseball game and trying to help us make the best decision for our child's care. I can handle a few delayed appts when I know the outcome involves thorough discussions around our baby girl's situation. On Friday, May 14, our daughter (now 6 1/2) had a second ureteral reimplant surgery under Dr. Bukowski's care. On Sunday the MD on call came to release her without examining any part of her issues. He didn't even know her complications and said very abruptly "it's all normal. You can take out the catheter and go home." Well, as any mother who worries would do, I had Dr. B paged, who spoke to both me and the nurse on the floor and decided we should monitor another day or two. He made the trip personally over to see her the following day and examined before discussing our options. He had been in surgery all day that day at UNC and came specifically for us. Then after a few questions we assumed
Less than two minutes time needed for a Drs, office visit.. How sad...., Apr 16, 2010

I had been referred to see Dr. Gaertner at Metro Urology due to and ongoing problem with gross hematuria. I had no idea what to expect as I waited for Dr. Gaertner to come into the exam room. Prior to his presence the nurse came in and got me prepped for the exam. When he came in he said "hello, I'm Dr. Gaertner", he then spent about 60 seconds performing a test, the left saying the nurse will be with you shortly. The nurse told me I needed to have a CT scan, which she would schedule for me. I never heard another word from Dr. Gaertner.
Very professional and positive experience with physician..., Apr 10, 2010

Had colonoscopy procedure. Very detailed instructions sent in mail before procedure. Followup call from office made two days prior to procedure. Office staff was very knowledgable and efficient. Appointment was done at the scheduled time. Doctor gave written results and went over findings before sending me home. Would highly recommend.
Excellent physician and very friendly staff. A+ rating...., Apr 10, 2010

I recently had my first OB appointment in this physician's office and was very pleased with the experience. The office staff was very helpful and friendly. The nurse that took my information and got my appointments set up for me was very friendly and knowledgeable when it came to answering my questions. The physician was very kind and understanding and explained things clearly. I would definitely recommend this physician to others.
Easy to talk to, personable, and easy to communicate with...., Mar 16, 2010

I had a regular OB checkup yesterday, and saw John Philman. I had some worries regarding how small I am measuring. John Philman addressed the issue, and gave me a few choices for resolution. We have decided to take the "wait and see" approach for now. I will return in two weeks, and if I am still measuring small, I will be referred for a more in-depth ultrasound. I also had to do my one hour glucose test, as well as test my thyroid again as I have had issues in the past. I am still waiting to hear results, but should get them back in the next few hours.
